Felix Lopex Appointed TSJC President

Denver – Felix Lopez (left), who has served as interim president of Trinidad State Junior College since last June was Friday appointed TSJC president by Dr. Nancy McCallin, president of the Colorado Community College System.

Prior to assuming the interim presidency, Lopez served as TSJC executive vice president and chief financial officer. The vacancy was created by the retirement of Ruth Ann Woods.

“Felix’s successes this past year have earned him the permanent presidency,” said McCallin. “His life is an inspirational story for all of our students. He started working in the cafeteria while he was a student at TSJC and is now the college president. What a wonderful role model for the students! We are excited as he continues to be a strong advocate for TSJC in the community and at the state level.”

“I am very pleased to become the permanent president for the college and want to thank everyone for their support. This past year has been very rewarding for me in so many ways,” said Lopez. “We are faced with many challenges but I know with the spirit of our faculty and staff, we will continue to excel in our efforts to give our students and all individuals who want a chance at a better future for themselves and their families that opportunity at TSJC.”

Lopez joined TSJC in 1994 as director of fiscal services and director of purchasing. In 2002, he was promoted to vice-president and chief financial officer. Prior to this, he was a franchise supervisor for Colomex for numerous years. He was a Colorado state trooper, serving the Trinidad community for a short time. He started his higher education experience with an associate of arts degree in accounting and business administration from TSJC in 1983, earned his bachelor of arts in social sciences in 1999 from the University of Southern Colorado, and then obtained his master’s degree in human resources and education from Colorado State University in Fort Collins in 2002.
