Mesa State Honors Late Coach Bus Bergman

GRAND JUNCTION – Last Friday night was proclaimed Bus Bergman (left) Night when the Mesa State College Mavericks face off against New Mexico Highlands University at Suplizio Field.

Walter “Bus” Bergman coached baseball for 23 years and football for 16 at Mesa State. He won more than 100 football games and more than 1,000 baseball games as the coach at Mesa State and the Grand Junction Eagles semipro team.

Bergman died March 28, 2010.

In honor of Bergman, the Mavs baseball team wore throw-back uniforms and hats and wore patches saying “Bus” for the remainder of the season. Additionally, old-style Mesa T-shirts were on sale.
